Preserving Heritage: The Restoration of Villa Paula in BarcelonaBC Estudio group
Villa Paula, a building protected for its historical and architectural value, is located in the Collserola Natural Park in Barcelona. It offers breathtaking views of the city and the sea. Surrounded by a pine forest, its silhouette is a local landmark, adjacent to the “Carretera de las Aigüas,” a popular spot for recreation and leisure.
Built in 1912, Villa Paula represents twentieth-century architecture with elements of Art Nouveau. Its symmetrical facades feature colorful trencadís and sgraffito on door and window lintels. The roof combines glazed and unglazed Arab tiles. Inside, the villa boasts high ceilings adorned with plaster moldings and rosettes, elegant carpentry, marble floors, and hydraulic mosaics.
After a thorough study, we focused on structural reinforcement, facade preservation, facility modernization, and restoration of the original colors. Our architectural proposal aimed to preserve its identity and maintain its historical essence. We harmoniously combined the building’s unique elements with contemporary touches to enhance its functionality and living conditions.
Furthermore, the landscaping plan includes native plants, sustainable enclosures, and the retention of existing trees to minimize environmental impact. We added a new pergola, terraces, and expanded the pool to enhance the outdoor space, seamlessly integrating it with the surroundings.
In conclusion, the restoration of Villa Paula not only preserves its historical and architectural value but also introduces modern amenities to meet contemporary living standards. The careful balance of old and new ensures that Villa Paula remains a treasured landmark in the Collserola Natural Park, offering a unique blend of history, elegance, and modern comfort.
