Exploring Art and Ecology: Castelldefels' Coastal Urban Park BC Estudio group

Located on the seafront of Castelldefels, a town south of Barcelona, this park is conceived as an urban park on the beach, an open-air museum, and a botanical garden. The park features twelve sculptures, ranging from 2 to 7 meters, granted to the city by renowned artist and sculptor Lorenzo Quinn.

Castelldefels is a privileged place within the Catalan system of beaches. Its great width has allowed the regeneration of the local dune system, linking them with the promenade. This enhances both the ecological and aesthetic value of the area.

The park consists of a system of paths and sitting areas flanked by artificial dunes, stabilized by local dune vegetation. From a botanical perspective, the park represents beach communities with typical vegetation of fixed and mobile dunes, as well as inter-dune vegetation.

This innovative design creates a harmonious blend of art, nature, and urban space, offering a unique experience for visitors. The park not only serves as a place for leisure and relaxation but also as an educational resource, showcasing the natural beauty and ecological importance of dune systems.

In summary, Castelldefels Seafront Park stands as a testament to the harmonious integration of natural landscapes and urban design. It offers a serene escape where art and nature coexist, providing both cultural enrichment and environmental education.
